2021 Acura Grand Prix Of Long Beach
Experience three days of big-stakes racing and entertainment at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, held on the streets and waterfront of downtown Long Beach and headlined by the NTT IndyCar Series. The excitement begins with a celebrity race that showcases the charisma of the sport with famous faces donning helmets to ride with professional drivers. For fans 12 years old and younger, there are free activities including pit stop competitions, driving simulators, chalk talk demonstrations, face painting, sign making, autograph sessions with current IndyCar drivers, interactive displays and more.
The Circuit
The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach course is a 1.97-mile race that begins on Shoreline Drive and uses all the streets in a 3.333-mile rectangle, including Shoreline Drive, Seaside Way, and AquariumWay, to complete a lap. The circuit has undergone numerous layout changes since the race’s inception in 1975. All iterations have featured a signature hairpin turn, main stretch along Shoreline Drive, and back stretch along Seaside Way. The first grand prix layout measured 2.02 miles, and featured two hairpins, one at each end of the Shoreline Drive straightaway. In its early years, the starting line and the finish line were located on different sides of the course.

Drivers Seat
The following lap of the 2015 Long Beach circuit is taken by Helio Castroneves during the race weekend. It’s a good illustration of how IndyCars get up to speed quickly, but still have to deal with some slow corners which cars in the other series don’t have to deal with. They also tend not to go through all gears in one corner, in contrast to F1 cars in their 2-3 mile long DRS zones. With 400hp, 800Nm torque and massive aerodynamics, IndyCars are incredibly impressive pieces of kit!
